The age stipulation on this matter is for more than one reason which is explained in the following;
During the past 18 months of Great Kings being open there have been many 'incidents' of foolhardy behaviour from unaccompanied children such as jumping and diving from the pool bridge and get this, quite recently while at Great Kings, I had need to ask a young boy of approximately 9-10 years old not to climb and jump from the pool bridge to which HIS MOTHER promptly came over and asked why I told him not to! When I explained the dangers her reply was 'but I told him it was okay to do it when there was nobody in the pool'!! My response was quite abrupt, short, and to the point, to which she very quickly went off in a 'huff'. Not wishing to have animosity throughout the remainder of our stay I approached her and explained again the dangers and that damage to the bridge from previous similar antics had not long been repaired. I also reiterated comments on how foolhardy and dangerous the behaviour was that her son had just been performing. Most children will cause mischief when parents are not around but tend not to when 'responsible' parents are present. It is common sense NOT to let young children by the pool unaccompanied and negligent of parents to do so! Parents are responsible for their children regardless of the childrens' competency of swimming and should accompany them AT ALL TIMES when at the pool. Not only to be on hand should any unfortunate incident occur, but also to monitor the childrens' behaviour! Regarding pool signs, the committee have agreed with the developer for them to provide signs for the pool bridge stating 'no diving or jumping' which should be fixed in place very soon. The signs will be there as a deterrent but it is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to prevent such action Hence the notice regarding children under 14 years MUST be accompanied at all times. Having just returned from the great kings on Monday this week, i too grabbed hold of a young girl who was "climbing the ladder" when she got out of her depth. Luckily her mum was close by and too grabbed her.
However i don't think you can stipulate a particular age on this, what needs to happen is for better signs on the poolside with depth markers painted onto the pool edge and a long overdue sign on the bridge to stop people monkey climbing along it and jumping off it. Both my childern are competent swimmers and although we would always be in the vercinity, any child can currently enter the pool and swim, which brings us back again more the reason to have gates at the poolside. Children are coming from houses up the road and other complex's to swim as you know, there are long term lets with children who just wonder down while there parents stay indoors, so it must be down to whether they are competent swimmers and not discriminate by age. If proper red/white pool signs are put up to this affect, (competent swimmers only all non swimmers must be accompanied by an adult at all times) then the onus is down to the parent/guardian as there are no lifeguards present which the current signclearly states. Regards Finebuild. |

I received a message from a resident of Great Kings regarding an incident at Great Kings whereas a child almost drowned in the pool yesterday! Apparently the child was resuscitated following recovery from bottom of the pool. Should this incident have been fatal then I am certain all Great Kings owners’ & residents would have been devastated and possible serious repercussion! I am unsure of the full details of the incident therefore have asked our maintenance providers, to investigate and obtain further detailed information as to what happened.
As a preventative measure against any possible further incident occurring, we have requested notices be placed in and around the pool areas stating CHILDREN UNDER 14 YEARS OF AGE MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES WHEN AT THE POOL. We assume there are no objections to this from owners / residents? May we again reiterate many owner’s concerns regarding misuse of the pool facilities i.e. diving or jumping from the pool bridge, that it is extremely dangerous and foolhardy to carry out such behaviour and all efforts to prevent and / or discourage anyone from carrying out these antics we ask be made by all. Hi All
I have uploaded a couple of pictures of the new safety rails which have been installed on the surrounding wall of the communal shower. The work is not quite complete as the roof part has not yet been installed as was agreed with the developer, but enquiries are being made this week as to completion timescales. Meanwhile however, information has been received that the roof access security has also been installed - higher gates and locks - to prevent unauthorised access. Further information regarding other ongoing work will also be published as and when received. Mike & Tina |

Hello Owners and Residents!
I was wondering if anyone that is at the complex right now could check to see if my roof articles are OK (Water pump, satellite etc...). Let me know if you can check on it for me... Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me a hand with this! e-mail me at david@beaudry.se please and I'll give you the details of which apartment/block I have. I'd like to add a special thanks to the resident's committee for all of the great work they are doing on our behalf! (A special thanks to Mike and the permanent residents that are keeping an eye on/looking out for EVERYONE'S property) Kindest regards, David Beaudry |

Hi All
The Great Kings forum will soon be moving to a new URL - address - once I have sorted out the technical stuff. I have made attempts to migrate this forum but it didn't seem to work correctly. I will therefore be setting up a new forum for the new domain I have obtained which is http://www.thegreatkings-cyprus.com. This will be the new 'hub' for GK complex where information can be obtained, posted etc as there is also a contact page for information delivery. Unfortunately this means everyone will need to re-register on the new forum - those who wish to - as all the database information will not migrate correctly either. The new domain has a temporary web site at the moment, but I will be creating a newer one during the next week or two. I will let everyone know when the forum is active so those who wish can register. Thanks. Mike |

The improvements sound great.
Thanks for all the work you put in. It may appear a thankless task but most of us really appreciate it. Looking forward to our break now! |

Tina & I were out for 2 and a half weeks and only the young girl who was there last season, ventured into the pool. We didn't see any of the same as last year although it is was still a little early in the season.
May I ask eveyone to please be a little vigilant when at Great Kings and do not be afraid to ask anyone who arrives at the pool area, where they are staying. Diplomacy is the key as we don't wish for anyone to have confrontation with visitors. Please, just be polite, ask if they are residents, owners etc and if they appear not to be, politely ask them to leave. I had cause to challenge a number of visitors last season and had no issues when explaining Great Kings is private and that only owners & residents are allowed to use facillities. Mike & Tina |
